Four persons nearly lynched for stealing rail line steels
Luck eluded some four(4) suspected persons who have been stealing rail line steels at Pampaso and Kensere in the Bekwai Municipality of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday.
The four according to residents were fond of cutting the railway track metal and selling it to scrap metal dealers.
The rail line is part of the construction of Eduabin-Obuasi section of the western railway line. This stretch of railway will pass through Asanso, Kensere and Pepedan in the Bekwai municipality to Obuasi.
At about 2am Tuesday dawn, the four suspects invaded the rail site in the community, loading the cut out metals into a heavy duty truck.
The information about their operation reached the community and this made the youth storm the site arrest the thieves after some of the agitated youth tried to beat them before police intervention.
The Assembly Member of Kensere, Hon. Emmanuel Anim Okyere who spoke to SilverNews said: “Some of the youth always go to the site fully armed to arrest these thieves but sometimes they are met with serious resistance by these criminals who will kill anyone who try to stop them”.
“But this morning, thank to the Almighty, unluckily for them, we chanced on them at their blind side and over powered them”, the Honourable Member told Nana Ampratwum on Silver FM’s Omanbapa Morning Show.
The suspects have been sent to the Bekwai Police for further investigation.
