CAF CL: Hearts of Oak down Wydad AC in Accra

Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak held on to record a slim 1-0 win over two-time African Champions Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League ( CAF CL ) at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Isaac Mensah scored what proved to be the game’s lone goal four minutes before the break.

The Phobians went into the into the first leg of the second preliminary round hoping to secure an advantage over the Moroccan giants.

The Moroccans proved their prowess in Africa as they begun the game asking a lot of questions upfront in the opening minutes the encounter.

Goalkeeper Richard Attah came to the rescue of the Phobians on several occasions with the pressure from WAC.

Hearts of Oak were forced into making an early substitution bringing on William Dankyi for Raddy Ovouja.

The Ghanaian giants seemed to have settled after thirty minutes and begun piling pressure on the visitors. Salifu delivered a cross on the path of Isaac Mensah as the striker connected while sliding beautifully into the net in the 41st minute.

Hearts of Oak will travel north hoping to defend their slim lead.
