Patients groan as strike by Health Service workers continues across country
Some patients have been left stranded in hospitals across the country as the union of Health Service Workers embarked on strike since Tuesday.
This has left some patients moaning because of the absence of health personnel and other staff at the hospitals.
The union is striking in protest of its desire for better conditions of service, which it says have not been fairly addressed.
SilverFM’s Akwadaa Nyame has been visiting some hospitals to see how patients are making out amidst the strike. Out Patient Departments , Record Unit all deserted, he reports.
Patients and relatives at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), on Thursday morning who had come for medical care were not spared by the impact as there are no personnel presence at some department attending to them.
Some of them shared their plight.
”My son was diagnosed with a fluid at his lower rib some 2 months ago and was put on drugs for some weeks ahead of surgery to draw off the fluid but since we came in the morning no one has attended to us”
” I came from Duayaw Nkwanta for my hand surgery …… I have been here on about four occasions and the Department I was directed to have my surgery is closed … I am stranded and do not know whether to return home with this huge transportation fares…there are no doctors to attend to us”
”I do not have money to seek private medical health care” a patient lamented
