Kotoko overcome Bechem Utd’s resistance to go top of table
Asante Kotoko defeated a resilient Bechem United side with two late goals to secure the three maximum points on Sunday while they marked a return to the Baba Yara Stadium after it was closed down for major renovation works in the last nineteen (20) months.
Two late goals from skipper Ismail Abdul Ganiyu and Samuel Boateng saw the porcupine Warriors move to the top of the nation’s top flight with 6points , 5 goals.
The porcupine warriors broke the deadlock in the 83rd minute after Captain Ismail Ganiyu converted a penalty after Isaac Oppong was pushed down inside the box from behind as he prepared to shoot.
Samuel Boateng headed home the double from close range to crown the nerve-racking encounter to mark their return to their traditional home ground with a victory since leaving in 2020 to pave way for a refurbishment.
Bechem United proved they were no easy pushovers and Asante Kotoko had a real test but in the end they were victorious after Dreams FC win last week.
Kotoko will play next Babiani Gold Stars at Dun’s Park in matchday 3 encounter.
