FirstLadysCup : Hasaacas Ladies shoot out Ampem Darkoa to lift maiden trophy
Hasaacas Ladies made history by becoming the first team to win the maiden edition of the First Lady’s Cup competition.
The initiative, a brainchild of the Ghana League Clubs Association is to honor the First Lady of Ghana, Her Excellency Madam Rebeca Akuffo-Addo. The competition is also geared towards changing the narrative about women’s football in an attempt to see the sports hit higher heights in Ghana.
The maiden edition which kicked off on Friday December 10 at the Accra Sports Stadium, saw the two most decorated sides in Ghana Women’s football face-off for the coveted prize.
The game kicked off in style as Ampem Darkoa bossed the initial exchanges. After some cagey displays subsequently, Ampem Darkoa re-asserted themselves and took the lead.
Enterprising forward Sonia Opoku finished off a delightful team move in the first half. It was a deserved lead for the side who were chasing revenge Hasaacas Ladies after losing back to back competitions (League and FA Cup) to them.
Hasaacas labored in the first half and went into the half time break with nothing to show for their little effort.
Back from recess, they lifted their game and upped the tempo. They decided to carve some decent openings and were rewarded with an equalizer when Jafaru Rahama put the ball in the net.
The game eventually failed to produce another goal as the match ended 1-1. With the result, a shootout was needed to decide the winner.
It was during the Shootout that Hasaacas Ladies edged their opponents with Goalkeeper Grace Banwah emerging the heroine.
