Hearts of Oak stroll to 2-0 win against Accra Lions
Champions Accra Hearts of Oak scored two second half goals to condemn new boys Accra Lions to their fifth defeat of the season at the Cape Coast stadium on Sunday.
Kofi Kordzi and Daniel Afriyie Barnieh gave the Phobians the three points after labouring to a scoreless draw in the first half.
Hearts of Oak came close in the 15th minute but Afriyie Barnieh couldn’t connect Gladson Awako’s ball as he shot wide.
Accra Lions controlled possession but could not create goal scoring opportunities.
The first half ended without a goal and with Hearts of Oak in dire need of a win, coach Samuel Boadu brought on Kwajo Obeng Jnr for Benjamin Yorke as Kofi Kordzi also came on for Isaac Mensah.
The changes produced instant result as Obeng Jnr fed Kordzi for the opener in the 62nd minute.
Afriyie Barnieh doubled the lead with a clinical finish in the 68th minute as Hearts of Oak took control of the match.
Kordzi nearly grabbed a brace with a well taken free kick but goalkeeper Accra Lions goalkeeper Frederick Asare was on hand to make a great save.
Accra Hearts of Oak who only won their first match of the season against Elmina Sharks on Wednesday, recorded yet another win to move out of the relegation zone.
The League Champions have a game in hand against arch rivals Asante Kotoko but will take on Dreams FC in their next match at the theatre of Dreams – Dawu.
