AFCON 2021: Nigeria in full flow, Egypt edge past Sudan into last 16
The Super Eagles of Nigeria recorded a perfect group state feat after beating Guinea-Bissau 2-0 in the third and final round of Group D of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations(AFCON), Cameroon 2021.
With Three wins from three games and a +6 goal difference Nigeria topped Group D with 9points conceding only a goal, becoming the only team in the competition to win all three group stage games.
Umar Sadiq handed the Nigerians a comfortable lead shortly after the break following a cross from striker partner Kelechi Iheanacho.
Captain William Troost-Ekong sealed the win after tapping into an empty net after fine work by Moses Simon.
Nigeria recorded a 1-0 victory over favorites Egypt in Group D opener before thrashing Sudan 3-1 and finally dropping Guinea-Bissau out of the the 33rd edition of the biennial international men’s football championship of Africa.
Also in Group D, seven-time winners Egypt edge past Sudan 1-0 and clinch their spot in the last 16 after finishing in second place.
Egypt joins the Super Eagles in the knockout phase of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations(AFCON), Cameroon 2021.
Sudan and Guinea-Bissau crush out of the tourney recording as low as 1 point respectively after three games.
