Mané sends Senegal into AFCON2021 final
Senegal sealed their place in the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2021 final blowing away a resilient Burkinabe side with a 3-1 win on Wednesday at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
Liverpool forward Mané was spectacular upfront, scoring a decisive third goal with a deft finish on the break.
The first break ended goalless with each side stretching out to their limits and cancelling each other in the middle in a bid to find the back of the net.
The West African derby lived up to it’s billing at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaoundé with Senegal having two penalty claims turned down following VAR reviews.
After the break both sides came out aggressively to breakthrough and take lead.
The breakthrough finally came in the 71st minute, after a corner dropping in the box for the Paris Saint‑Germain centre-back Abdou Diallo hooked in from close range.
The Stallions were forced to change their goalkeeper Kouakou Koffi following a collision with Senegal’s Cheikhou Kouyate.
The second was knocked in by Idrissa Gueye after Sadio Mané had outmuscled Issa Kaboré before cutting the ball back. Mane crowned it all with a howler.
The Stallions managed to pull a goal back 8 minutes from time when midfielder Ibrahim Blati Toure latched on to Issa Kabore’s cross.
Senegal is set for the final and will now face the winner in the second semi-final game between hosts Cameroon and Egypt which comes off Thursday at the Paul Biya Stadium, Olembé.
