33-man Black Stars AFCON qualifiers squad named, GPL stars Okrah, Barnieh receive call up

Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo has officially named a 33-man squad for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations(AFCON) qualifiers for next week’s African Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar and the Central African Republic.

In-form Bechem United winger Augustine Okrah and Accra Hearts of Oak forward Daniel Afriyie Barnieh have been invited to join the party.

Okrah has scored 13 goals in the Ghana Premier League and provided three assists while Barnieh, 20, has scored eight league goals and provided three assists.

The Black Stars will participate in a four-nation tournament against Japan, Chile and Tunisia as part of preparations for the 2022 World Cup in November.

Captain Andre Ayew who missed the World Cup play-offs against Nigeria through a two-match suspension has been handed a recall to the squad.

Also, returning to the squad are Mubarak Wakasso, Jonathan Mensah and Kamaldeen Sulemana.

Arsenal forward Nketia, Chelsea winger Hudson-Odoi, Brighton’s right wing-back Lamptey and other players are in pursuit by GFA to feature for Black Stars ahead of 2022 Fifa World Cup.

Ghana will begin her Group E campaign in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers against Madagascar on Wednesday, June 1, before taking on the Central African Republic on June 5.
