Sadio Mane suffers World Cup injury scare
Senegal star Sadio Mane has had his World Cup hopes thrown into jeopardy after he picked an injury last night during a Bundesliga clash between Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen on Tuesday evening.
The Bayern Munich winger limped off the pitch after he suffered a suspected injury to his ‘tibia’ 15 minutes into the match.
Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann confirmed after the game the winger will ‘have an x-ray’ in the coming days to further determine the extent of the injury with the World Cup commencing in less than two weeks time.
‘I didn’t see him after the game, I hope it’s not a big injury. But I don’t know at the moment’, the Bayern boss continued. ‘We’ll see tomorrow and then give an update.’ According to Eurosport, Nagelsmann said.
Just 15 minutes into their encounter with Werder Bremen the 30-year-old went doing holding his right leg and signalled for Bayern’s medical team to come onto the pitch.
It seems unlikely that Mane will be fit for their final league fixture before the World Cup break against Schalke on Saturday.
It could come as a massive blow for Senegal given the fact he was instrumental in their African Cup of Nations victory in February this year.
Senegal is placed in group A alongside Qatar, Ecuador and the Netherlands.
Meanwhile Senegal coach Aliou Cissé is due to announce his list of players for the upcoming tournament as the nation open their Group A campaign against the Netherlands on Monday November 21, 2022.
Senegal President Macky Sall has tweeted encouraging words to the Bayern Munich star Sadio Made, following reports that he will miss the World Cup in Qatar.
