FIFAWorldCup22: Fullkrug strikes late to salvage draw for Germany vs Spain

Germany fought back from a goal down to salvage a 1-1 draw against Spain in the heavyweight clash of the first round of the 2022 World Cup.

Antonio Rudiger headed a goal to put Germany ahead but disallowed by a second look by VAR just before half-time after straying offside.

Spanish forward Dani Olmo’s also had his fierce drive palmed on to the bar by Manuel Neuer after just seven minutes.

Alvaro Morata come off the bench to give Spain the lead earlier in the second half but fellow substitute Fullkrug fired beyond Unai Simon to change the mood as Germany earned their first point of the 2022 World Cup following their shock defeat to Japan.

Germany’s fate in the tournament is still uncertain, as they will need to beat Costa Rica in their final game and get a favourable result in the concurrent game between Spain and Japan.
