The recently constructed Kejetia Market in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region is currently closed down to the public following Wednesday’s fire.
The fire which ravaged parts of the newly built market called by locals as ‘Dubai’ begun at about 4:30 in the evening.
Fire officials fought to put out the fire.The cause of the fire is yet to be established. Traders who witnessed the incident stood helpless and some wailed as their goods were consumed by the fire.
Speaking to managers of the facility – Kumasi City Markets Ltd – hours after the incident said the fire has caused huge loss of properties.
They indicated that the closure is to pave way for investigations to commence and to prevent any obstructions to the process and to establish the root cause of the disaster.
