”There’s nobody that can guarantee anything” – Chris Hughton on ending trophy drought

Coach of the Black Stars of Ghana, Chris Hughton has openly indicated that he cannot guarantee the country a trophy; ”There’s no one Coach or manager that can guarantee you trophies”

The former Brighton and Hove Albion manager made this honest remarks whiles reacting to SilverFM’s Obed Acheampong question at the unveiling ceremony held Monday 20 March, 2023 at the SG Mall at Ayigya, Kumasi.

He told Ghanaians he cannot make empty promises and their expectations in terms of winning trophies should be guarded. However, he firmly pointed out that what he can promise is to build a strong team capable of competing for honours on the continent.

” What we can guarantee is to work hard as honest as we can to put the team together to create the right tactics, right mentality, right personnel to put ourselves in the best position to do that. The first that comes is qualification and so we will work as hard as we can”

Chris Hughton has been in charge of the team since February 2023, following successful negotiations with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ghana Football Association.

He replaces Otto Addo who left the role after the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament that took place in November/December last year.

He signed a contract to lead the senior national team until December 2024.

Chris Hughton on Monday held his first training session since his appointment as the head coach of the Black Stars before a trip to Kumasi ahead of their first AFCON qualifiers game against Angola on Thursday March 23, 2023.

Seventeen (17) players are currently in camp ahead of the trip to Kumasi this afternoon. They include Jojo Wollacott, Djiku, Denis Odoi, Kingsley Schindler, Patrick Kpozo, Daniel Amartey, Joseph Aidoo, Andre Ayew, Joseph Painstil, J. Ayew.
