TotalEnergies U23 AFCON : Ghana suffer 5-1 thumping to Morocco in Group A
The Black Meteors of Ghana suffered a 5-1 defeat to hosts Morocco in their second match of the TotalEnergies CAF U23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Tuesday night.
Morocco therefore becomes the first team to secure a spot in the semifinals of the TotalEnergies CAF U23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023.
The Black Meteors went down by 2-0 within the opening 13 minutes. Oussama El Azzouzi broke the deadlock after seven minutes with a well-timed header, while Ismael Saibari extended the advantage just six minutes later and a third goal minutes later.
The Ghanaian team quickly responded with a goal and almost added a second as Fatawu Issahaku’s long-range goal in the dying seconds of the first half was disallowed.
Morocco’s captain, Abdessamad Ezzalzouli, slot home from close range after the break bringing the scoreline to 4-1.
Yanis Redha Begraoui of Morocco secured his second goal of the evening a minute later to make it 5-1.
Ghana will now shift focus to their final Group A encounter against Guinea as Morocco prepare to face Congo Brazzaville on June 30th in Rabat.
